Just for a bit of fun...

Every club has them, the characters that everyone knows, even if you don't know them.

I'll start with "Shorts Guy"... wears shorts all year round, no matter the weather.

Normally between 35 and 55, Shorts Guy has a sturdy pair of permanently tanned legs always on show, the slight limp coming from his football/rugby days.

Solid, dependable member of the club who everyone likes, even if they've never spoken to him, enjoys the beer with his mates more than the golf, never won a trophy 🏆 apart from the odd winter league, never been seen at a formal event, handicap around 15.

Over to you 🙂

14/15 year old wannabe pro.

Practices no end, lessons with specialists for each aspect of the game. Dad spends a fortune on lessons and sports psychologists &, new equipment every 6 months.

Some times has a really low score but generally just gets upset that a load of weekend golfers have lower handicaps and beat them.

Snaps & throws clubs and no one wants to play with him.

More than 6 off where he needs to be.
I’ve known a few at +2 and +3 at mid teens, all struggle at pro game. One got to European tour, one is now on Challenge, most just do Jamega Europro etc

We have the Jamega tour twice a year. Loads of late teens, early twenty youngsters all trying to be the next big thing. Most once on the course struggle to shoot par and are gloriously deluded. There are perhaps 4-5 really top quality pros that have either been there and done it at a higher level or are working well towards moving up a league and tend to be be the ones that are in the mix regularly

Fanboy.

Now 28 with enough disposable income for his golf due to his decent job and 50 quid a week rent to his mum, he is always immaculately dressed in co-ordinated golf attire.
TaylorMade tour bag, TaylorMade driver, fairway and hybrid, TaylorMade irons and the obligatory TaylorMade putter and "same ball that Rory uses" .

Loves everything about golf, especially anything TaylorMade, loves changing the settings on his SIM Max driver in full view of the clubhouse just before slicing into the trees down the 1st.

Plays off 12, the members pull his leg but everyone likes him.

The old dude

Plays off 13-15 in his 60's pushing 70. Used to be a cat 1 player in his hayday. Still a Rolls Royce of a golf swing and mustard around the greens. You don't want to play him for cash.
Thoroughly nice guy with more stories than anybody. Still rides his bike and was a pretty decent footballer in his day.

That deluded middle aged fella who tells that many porkies he actually believes what he tells people. Used to be a Cat 1 golfer, caddy, semi pro footballer, cricketer, rugby player, ref, umpire, kit man, junior footballl coach etc.

Spends all his time talking a good game, giving advice, practicising, playing but never seems happy and still can’t chip or putt.

Definitely don't want to get drawn against them in the club knockout. Usually around the 15-18 mark so getting a few shots too. Usually 150-180 off the tee and straight, deadly with a fairway wood or hybrid to withing 100 yards and then will chip and putt you to death

That fella who bores every one to death with their blow by blow account of 105 shots, plays off 24 with a bag full of gear they can’t hit, never buys a pint and lingers round the pro shop like a bad fart. You dread your tee time when you’ve been drawn with him in the 2nd round of the captains prize😁

The committee know all, argumentative, member, never had a lesson, cat 2 but tells everyone he’s cat 1, claims to be an expert on every subject in the clubhouse and an all round cock. Disliked by everyone including his missus.
Involved in another sport he always tells you about ?
