    Fashionable clubs ?

A kind of follow on from the 40 yard in topic....

Looking at WITB with so many members sig I do wonder if many have gone for fashion over function ??

I read guys with 60 degree wedges with whatever bounce or 50/56/50 wedges again with whatever bounce or grind etc and then I look and see they have a 22 handicap or a 19 handicap

Now I'm not saying they shouldn't have them in the bag but last Friday I played with one of our seniors who plays of 7 and his chipping round the greens was absolutely lethal, same club every time, one of those old fashioned jigger type clubs, I have a hunch than many higher handicap players would be far better using one of these than the latest fancy Dan superfandago spinning wedge, tell me otherwise ??

I could chip everywhere with a 8 iron .. but sometimes you just want to learn to chip properly and improve using the tools of your heros

I have a set of beat up old clubs, but if I had a nice set of clubs i'd like to show them off regardless of the quality of my play.

For example I have a handmade snooker cue, but i can barely make a break above 30. Despite the skill the cue is lovely

    Cabby,

Are you saying they may have all the gear but in essence have no idea ?

Next you will be telling us they wear them powerband shoes

You can be a funny old coffin dodger at times SpankyHanky, but no, what I'm saying is, some may be fashion over function, not quite the same.

*EDIT Actually no what I'm saying is, perhaps some are using clubs that don't suit their game.

So are you saying that people should not use the wedges they have bought and instead use a chipper ? Or is a jigger something else ?

Does it have enough loft to allow you to get the ball up quickly when faced with say a bunker in between you and the green ?

with lofts getting ever stronger there is definitely a need for more wedges . although for 50 yards and in i pretty much always use my 52 degree. with a 56 for the sand

I carry 4 wedges and they all have different uses/yardages. I can use everyone to good use and would be lost without them, not sure I could use a chipper TBH I think they are more suited to players who can't chip very good
