    Re: One rule...

I have some sympathy with him, however doing 100mph I could say let off no problem but 116 on the radar gun is too much to be just let off without some sort of driving ban.
I need my license to work, and consider 30 above any limit, if caught, to be lost license and job which is why I don't go there.
    Forever trying.

I'd say you are quite possibly wrong there. Personally, I haven't, although I drive a car that can easily exceed that.

    Join my gang.

What some people think and what most people actually do are generally pretty wide of the mark.
The vast majority of drivers I see are sensible law abiding citizens.

At 116 his Speedo would most likely have been showing over 120.
That's getting on towards twice the limit and there's no excuse for that.
I don't care who he is, what he's done, what hardship he has/will endure - he should have got the points and the ban.
While not absolutely accurate, a well maintained car, in good driving conditions, would need in excess of 250 yards to stop at that speed
A car pulling out to overtake another would not see him, he'd be too far back to be able to judge the approach speed.
Anything over 100 is dangerous and deserves an instant ban.
And if it's going to cause loss of job or other hardship then maybe they should think about that before they put the hammer down...
Well said. Definite lack of care or responsibility and with points already on the licence, that should have been enough for the magistrate to impose a ban

I do 40-50 thousand miles a year and I can honestly say it not a common as youd think. There are certain places where you see it more often (A1 north of Leeds, lots of high end cars from the commuter belt) and along the M62 near Halifax (lots of highly tuned chav cars) but apart from that i really dont see it all that much.

    100% agree
If you've been smoking something you shouldn't and you see something that walks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, then it's probably a dog or a bag of peas.
