At 116 his Speedo would most likely have been showing over 120.
That's getting on towards twice the limit and there's no excuse for that.
I don't care who he is, what he's done, what hardship he has/will endure - he should have got the points and the ban.
While not absolutely accurate, a well maintained car, in good driving conditions, would need in excess of 250 yards to stop at that speed
A car pulling out to overtake another would not see him, he'd be too far back to be able to judge the approach speed.
Anything over 100 is dangerous and deserves an instant ban.
And if it's going to cause loss of job or other hardship then maybe they should think about that before they put the hammer down...

I'd say a majority also regularly break the speed limit too.

Most havenít complained about it. Simply said he didnít get what he deserved. Iím sure most of caught would hold their hands up and take their punishment.

Far to many people get off charges like this beciase if work hardship or whatever else excuse their money/status can afford them. It makes a mockery of having a speed limit.

in my youth when I had my BMW I decided to see how fast I could go... 145 and then it was the fact lampposts on the a1 were going past me as quick as I saw them.. slowed down and kept it below 100 from then on.

now I own more sensible cars and barely break 80
