Strokeplay, no problem, especially if split into divisions.
Yep, I just wouldn't, makes a mockery of it all.

    OK, Chris, I'll react.

I'm sure you will have read my post #24.

There is not going to be a flood of 54 handicappers starting this week. There will be, in the years ahead, players being allocated initial handicaps higher than 28. Just as players who have been allocated 28 under the old system, they will have to be educated in the ways of competition - speed of play, pick ball up when can't score in stablefords or bogeys, etc. etc..

When we allocated Club Handicaps, it didn't slow play down - if anything the opposite, as those players gained confidence from suddenly being in a more competitive environment.

    Agreed.

With the new spread of handicaps, it would probably be wiser to have some sort of split for knockouts - at least until we have all seen the longer term effects of the changes.

    PS

I would still bet on you, even giving 50 shots.

    Re: 54 handicap !

My father in law is 77 , been playing once a month for about 6 years in our society, he has had a society handicap of around 50 for ages, couple of times he has come in with 37 points to win, gets cut then gets 24 next time out.

He loves the game, plays quite fast,so even though he is taking more shots than others, he does not hold the game up, doesnít dig up the course and if he could putt he would take 15 strokes off.

I think that it is a positive thing, it allows the uncompetitive 28 handicapper the chance to become competitive and to hopefully extend their playing of the game.

Yes it needs divisionalising , but itís really not a problem.

Donít forget GM strongly supports the Golf for everybody ethos, not just for the elite.

Lets hope that the rest of the members do not hold the same opinion as you, as that could be the downfall of your club eventually.
