    Re: Football Fans

I think you can be a huge fan and passionate about a team despite ever going to a game. My mate supports Norwich because he lives in Northwich and when he was a wee'un, he though that was his local team He grew up with it and loves them, knows everything about them and looks for there scores religiously. He has only ever been to Carrow Road twice though. Is he a fan, yes, absolutely. My cousins in Australia are all Liverpool mad because they grew up in the 80's, and naturally gravitated towards a successful side. Again, they know everything about them despite never even leaving Oz.

Match goers do tend to 'live' it more than others as its such a big part of their daily lives. They invest a lot more personally as for example I do now with golf. If I have a bad comp round, i'm stewing for a couple of days after and planning my range trips to sort out what went wrong. I don't dwell on Man U results anywhere near as much as I used to.

I'm less invested than I used to be although I still get upset when we lose and the 'defensive' seasons under Moyes and LVG were gut wrenching. Not had a season ticket for 10+ years but my great grandad took my grandad, and my grandad took my mum and then my mum took my brother and I. In the 80's / 90's / 00's it was a given one of us would go with mum (we had 2 league match books as couldn't afford full season tickets). I do go to about half a dozen a season now with the corporate prawn sandwich brigade, but I dont really enjoy it as much.

Get yourself to FC United mate.. Crackin game last night, FA Cup replay V Stockport.
FC down to 9 men after 40 mins then went on to beat them 1-0.A proper blood and guts performance, the place was bouncing and all for less than £10. Stockport were devastated..beaten by a 9man so called pub team

..and you can also drink on the terraces
