Answer your own question - is there anything wormlike or insectlike in a spider, a slug, a snail or a small frog? If yes to any of them, it doesn't figure for relief.
The problem with online forums is that there's no body language or tone of voice that gives away the poster's intent.
I was, of course, joking - and I hope that you realised that.

Mind you, on a semi-serious note, I can imagine that some people would say that a slug is pretty worm-like, and others would say not. (Yes, I know that they are not even in the same phylum). If YOU were playing and a FC's putt was deflected by a small slug, would you think they were entitled to retake the shot?

Slugs move so slowly you wouldn't know if was actually stationary.

But since it's animate, it doesn't matter whether it's moving, does it?
So: your putt hits a slug - retake shot without penalty, or play as it lies?

(My personal view: if you were daft enough to hit a putt without first removing the slug that was on your line, you deserve to suffer).

In a very gentle breeze, they no doubt move sluggishly.

Good point! Why do slugs get all the headlines on slow movement? I am sure worms, tortoises etc are a bit miffed.

Re: Leaf deflecting putt. New rule?

On Friday Peter Hanson hit his tee shot just as a gust blew a pile of leaves on him. Leaves were on him, the ball, everything. He mullered it up the middle. Robert Rock was up next and asked quietly if he needed to 're-take it as a leaf was undoubtedly on the ball. It was said with concern, not nastiness, presumably following what happened with the golfer mentioned here. Hanson replied it was only relevant on the green. Rock smiled and acknowledged he had learnt something.

Even the pro's are still learning when it comes to golf rules.

If, as it seems, he was aware there had been a problem with this rule, why didn't he make an effort to understand it?
    Or had he?
