    Re: "Hello Mr Captain"

If at my club they said we had to address the captain as Mr Captain I'd assume it was a new member wind-up or something. Like when you tell the apprentice to get some tartan paint. We call our captain Paul - because his name's Paul.

If, after arriving at the Club on Saturday morning for the Comp, I see the Captain/President/Lady Captain, it`s always, "Good morning, Captain/President/Lady Captain".
Manners and a bit of respect cost nothing.

    Re: "Hello Mr Captain"

I once got told off at my last club for saying "morning" to the lady president. I was told to say "good morning lady president". To be honest I avoided her after that so I didn't have to say anything to her. It wasn't her that told me off and I was never fully sure wether it was meant to be serious or not.

Bit off topic but is Lady Captain really a title in clubs? That seems a bit weird

Even as a PC skeptic 'Morning Captain' would seem more natural & appropriate than 'Morning Lady Captain'

Edit: Ditto for Morning Lady President

    Re: "Hello Mr Captain"

Captain does get a bit of respect, but not enforced. Mr Captain is definitely something I have said recently....and like SILH, Mr Captain Sir. My own choosing to say it. Sometimes I will just call him by first name too.

President, however...Commander in Chief! She laughs with it, so it's all good!

At Cuddington yesterday,we had finished playing and were in the bar. In walks a lady.

BIM pipes up "Good Afternoon Madam Lady Captain" in a very friendly respectful way, tinged with a tad of happy banter.

Certainly no enforcement, but golf is about respect, so I don't have a problem with it

Biggest problem is knowing who your captains are

Our Ladies section has a Lady Captain, our President this year is a woman and has asked to be called 'Madam President'.

    Re: "Hello Mr Captain"

There is only one Captain of the club male or female.
The other one is the men's captain or the ladies captain
We address ours a Mr Captain as he is a man.
We call the ladies captain Margaret as she is only Captain for the ladies.
We have never had a woman captain so I assume it would be Madam Captain and call the men's Captain By his name!
