I can't answer for SwingIt but at our place we do not have a Club Captain, just checked the website to confirm this. We have section Captains but not an overall Captain. I assume his club is the same.

Judging by his other post as well, bobmac is struggling to count today.

We don't have an outright 'Club' Captain - and the Gents and Ladies Captains are equals.

The Juniors Captain's main job is keeping the Juniors in line

...well from 10.0 to 9.4 this year would be nice.

And last medal of the year (Oct) saw me play to handicap but CSS was +1 so that was me down 0.2 from 8.3 to 8.1

I obviously wrongly assumed that clubs still have a captain for each section and an overall captain

So would they both expect courtesy at other courses?

And we wonder why the youngsters aren't drawn to golf inthe numbers we hope.

Is there another sport where 'toffing your cap' to the nominated Captain is expected. Usually these people aren't the best golfers at the club but just someone with the inclnation and time to invest.

IMO Its about time Clubs who hang on to this out-dated behaviour moved into the 21st century.

I respect people for who they are and how they conduct themselves - if you want me to use a nominated straw title then you can jolly well use my formal title in return !

Not expected at all. No guidance and directive given by club. Just the individual's choice.

And yes - always - someone with the inclination and time to invest. But they still have to be asked and then nominated for approval by the members. That you might be a not very good golfer is completely irrelevant to the role of Captain. In representing the club - the captains are simply expected to embody (as far as possible) and uphold the traditions and ethos of the club.

We've recently had a woman as the overall captain of our club. Pretty sure Rita wouldn't have taken too kindly to being called Mr. Captain.
