Need a new tv, anyone in the know?!

So bought our first house and need a new tv, budget is around 600 give or take.

would like 55in really, is it worth going 4K? I'm guessing it is for future proofing?

any brand recommendations or ones to avoid?

we bought a sony 55" last year which is 4k for about your budget and been more than happy with it since, theres a few little bits on 4k now but yes its more an insurance for not having to buy a new one in a couple of years

still, might need to get a new CRT screen if the golfs gonna be in SD from now on

I would recommend an LG or Panasonic TV. Even the cheaper models are good spec . I've had my LG for over 7 years and it's still going strong

    Cobra King LTD 4 Wood
    Mizuno MP-H5 2 Iron
    Mizuno MP-4 Irons (4-PW)
    Cobra King Versatile Wedges (52,58)
Scotty Cameron Newport Beach 1.5 Putter

    Handicap : 7.7

I'd agree with the above. LG, Panasonic and I'll throw in Samsung as well. Get any of those and you won't go wrong.

Check out Richer Sounds. They often do models that are new but say 6 months old and so not the absolute latest. Rather like golf clubs they are no different in tech but much cheaper.

I've got an LG from richer sounds, 4 years old and still a stunning picture.

I did my reading up, quickly realised futureproofing a TV is pointless as half the tech in it will be outdated when the other half is finally of use.

I ended up with a sub £300 non 4K LG and couldn't be happier.

All the apps I need and no worry.

When 4K is the norm I will buy a 4K TV.

I got a Hisense last year, 55 inch 4K, slightly cheaper than your budget and it is fine for my needs.

I have no doubt the more well known manufacturers picture is slightly better, but to be honest as I mostly watch TV shows as opposed to films or gaming, I'm happy with it. Have got a separate sound bar so sound from tv was not an issue.

Trouble with larger screens is that you need a higher def input to stop the "I need glasses everything is blurred" look.
I have a Pana 46"plasma, and I hate watching anything that isnt true high def.
    Forever trying.

I have a 4k Samsung 55" its stunning. Blurays and sky sports in UHD is amazing. Only go for 4K if you are a bluray buff or you have SkyQ.

    I've got a 49 inch LG 4K.

It's mint! Perfect picture, dead easy to use and so simple to use iPlayer or Youtube on it that even my technophobe mother in law can cope.

Should be able to pick one up in Currys for your price range

In T3 this month they say the Hisense M5500 is the best 4K TV you can get at the moment. I assume value is a major consideration. They also rate a Philips 55PUT6400. Both should be in your budget.
