    Re: USPGA Championship on BBC

Anyone know if red button coverage is show on Iplayer at all? Or is it just on the TV you can view it.

Ever channel hopped on to the Red button? Nope, me either. The key to the success or not of this is where it gets put in the schedules.

It's normally also on iplayer ( Wimbledon was ) as well as online

They were talking about it on the radio - the most Sky get for golf is just over a million , believe they got about 1.1 mil peak for last years Open which is their record for a single comp - Ryder Cup is more - will be surprised if it's more this year. BBC for their last Open got just under 5 mil from memory as a peak. Last year the BBC two hour highlights show got more than Sky Live coverages. When it comes to the Masters the BBC live coverage on Sat and Sunday pulls in more viewers. So I think this year the US PGA could have more viewers from the UK than it's ever had when it's on the BBC

Catch 22 really. Likely to be more viewers, probably worse coverage doing nothing to improve the image of golf.

Fingers crossed the BBC up their game but it seems unlikely with golf being so far down their priorities in recent years.

If it was on Sky I wouldn't spend the time and money getting a NowTV pass for any of it.
As it's going to be on the Beeb I'll probably watch some of it.
So the viewing figures will be up by at least 1!

Exactly. No one that doesn't watch golf is going to go searching on a red button and time live coverage comes on after the athletics many won't bother. At least Sky get it out there and you can see without hunting and if you do like a red button coverage they usually cover key holes or groups. Missed opportunity

The trouble with Alliss is that I associate him with commentating on golf when I was growing up. And I am getting on a bit now. And whilst the odd one or two some commentators are timeless (Peter O'Sullevan for one), I think most have a limited shelf life and eventually fall into self parody or just become out of touch with a modern sporting audience. I admit he may have a certain charm to some, but I feel there is a much greater risk of someone tuning in and thinking it is a broadcast from the 1970s when he is prattling on.
