    USPGA Championship on BBC

The BBC will show live coverage of the USPGA Championship in three weeks after Sky and the PGA of America failed to reach an agreement.

Is this good for golf, or a bad thing given how good Sky's Open coverage was?

I believe they have to take the host feed as part of the deal so it will come down to how they fill any ad breaks the host has.

Also I believe it will only be on the red button for the early part of the evening.

Despite all that, more people will have access to watch it, so that has to be the biggest plus.

I don't disagree that Sky did a good job with the Open with coverage of all 4 days, however I doubt very much that if Sky had kept the coverage of the USPGA they would have had similar coverage, and just like the Masters they would have taken the host to coverage.
On the whole I think it's good the BBC have it, and should give them a chance to show what we are missing......hopefully.
    Forever trying.

I don't think that a big problem especially if they have their own commentary/studio team. The host is filming recording continuously anyway even if Sky go to an ad break

I had no ad breaks for 8 hours yesterday and only about one 30 second ad every 90 minutes on other days (and not just have a static shot of 18th green or anything like that either) full continuous commentary

Its great, and quail hollow is only -4hr so not too late a night.

    As for Sky vs BBC..

I cant say SKY did anything different to the beed in as far as thier open coverage. I'd have rated the BBCs a bit better.

As long as Gary Lineker is not fronting their golf coverage again I am fine with it

Sky did a great job showing live coverage from first tee off to last putt

I don't think its either good or bad for golf, infact, I don't think it will have any impact on the growth of the game. It's good that its free to the license payer, but lets face it, the only people that will watch the USPGA are those who are into golf already. Given it will probably just be a one off, i'd be surprised if the BBC invest and do anything creative or innovative. The BBC will probably do a half baked job and role out Linekar or Evans to host it. I hope they prove me wrong.

I think what Sky have done with their coverage , and to grow the game in general is to be applauded (Helped bring back the British Masters, free tickets etc). Is golf on the decline ? The majority of clubs in my area have junior sections that are thriving. Birkdale had more spectators through the gate than any other Open before today.

Quail Hollow could be one massive water hazard if it's only 4 hours behind the UK
