    Biggest golf turn off. (rant)

Whats the thing that would stop you playing golf?

I have only been playing a year and really enjoy golf, sad I know but I really enjoy just chilling out playing on my own a few nights a week after work and then playing comps at weekend. Recently though the evening games have become a right chore! Today it has taken 3hr 30mins to get round!!!, teeing off on the 18th in near darkness. I normally check before booking in to make sure it's not busy as I hate waiting around. Tonight the last tee off before me was 1hr 20 mins ahead, there were 4 2 balls ahead. By the 8th I had caught up with them and spent the rest of the round stood around, I had a 2 ball behind me so couldn't even hold back and do some putting. This means by the end it had taken 2 balls over 4 hours for 18 holes!! I only joined my current club in April and will be changing again in the next few months for various reasons. I really hope my next place isn't so tedious.

Maybe I should slow down a little

Lucky my club is usually empty after 7pm so I can tee off after then and get a round in 2 hours.

Was doing it a night or 2 a week but dropped off recently.

Biggest turn off is a round on the weekend taking up to 5 hours...some people are just so slow and can hold the entire course up.

To be honest those groups should really be letting you play through. No excuses there!

I find our course is incredibly quiet on the evenings so it's a perfect time to get out for 9 holes and throw a few extra balls down from 50 yards out and have a pitch and putt!

Since joining a club I've been finding that my
rounds have been getting quicker. I was in a three ball last weekend and it took us about 3 hrs 20 mins to get round. Quickest round of golf I've ever had!! It allowed me a bit of time for a drink afterwards without the other half even suspecting anything 😂😂😂

There is no reason why the others shouldn't let you play through, but if they are really reluctant and you don't want to be stuck behind them, can't you just skip a hole and jump in front of them? It's what I try to do in situations like that. I, too, like those quick evening rounds on my own and it annoys me when I get stuck behind a slower group. But our course layout allows for several shortcuts, so instead of staying in line and gettiing angry, I just cross over to another hole which is empty and continue from there. Granted, I might not get the complete 18 holes in that way, but I'd rather play 15 holes in my tempo than ruin my 18 hole round by being frustrated that things aren't moving fast enough.

5 hours! I've had the on a Wednesday comp and it was only a 3 ball!! It turns golf from being an enjoyable few hours to a tedious chore in my opinion!

My old course would be under 4 hours for a 4 ball in a comp, my new one seems to be around 4 hours for a 3 ball, the course isn't any longer or particularly difficult. I've found on a Saturday I need to try and get out early as this seems to be when the faster people are out. I.e. A few weeks ago in the club championship 3 guys had done 36 holes in less than 5 hours! I started at 10 and finished at 7pm!! (An hour between rounds, although I'm guessing the first group went back out in a gap that was available to finish that quickly)

    In order:

    1) 5 1/2 hour swindle rounds
    2) non repaired pitch marks when we have some of the best greens in the area
    3) scum bags who don't rake bunkers after them , even worse on comp days.

Point 1 would be the biggest factor in me leaving my current club, if this becomes the norm.

Of course they should have let you through (unless theirs was a comp and a rule dictates otherwise) It might also help to adjust your expectations too (just for your own enjoyment of your round)

Without breaking any rules/limits I can drive home in 27 minutes from the office however when someone asks me how long it takes me to drive home I never say 27 minutes

I can achieve this once in a blue moon only because there’s no one in front or approaching from behind, no others in my car so I’m just a single, I’d have to drive at an unsociable time but that means no hold up at lights to add any delay, no route deviations, no parked vehicles to navigate, no other users to give way to, I effectively have private roads just for me… it’s a millionaires commute

If it takes 35 minutes I am not 8 minutes late because I could never use 27 minutes as my standard (lots of golfers do this with their driving distance by picking their best that didn’t have some weird anomaly and quoting that as their standard)
In fact 35 minutes would actually be a very very good time when you start to add in the inevitable factors that will impact my millionaire commute, the norm is 45 minutes so 35 is actually 10 minutes early

When I get on the course the above can happen with no other players, no delays/distractions, fly through the group in front with not a moments delay, no other players to consider etc etc etc … but it’s also just once in a blue moon occurrence, it’s millionaire golf and great when it happens

The reality is that they’ll never build that private road just for me to use each day and neither will I have my own course, so I have to share both with the other users

Some of those will be good guys, abide by the rules, help you out at junctions/bottlenecks, passing is done without fuss and only a minor delay etc etc and I’m home/round in good solid time but very regularly I meet the guys who’s behavior is not so good and that only delays me more… but other than by example I am not in a position to change the other drivers/golfers behavior one iota (but then no one thinks they are a bad driver just like no one thinks they are a slow player)

I’m not advocating meekly accepting slow play/poor etiquette from others but we very rarely achieve a Personal Best score so why do we expect a near PB time?

So for my own enjoyment I try to adjust my expectation for the score I’ll shoot... and the time it’ll take

But… at least once a week it’ll take me over an hour to get home and I need a rant so I understand the OP

Yeah slow play is annoying. One of the guys I play with sometimes is a pain for it. Every shot he's standing there with his rangefinder. How far to the hole? How far to that bunker? How far to that tree over there? How far to that hazard? Which way is the wind blowing? *Hand on chin, deciding which club to use. Takes out club. Stands there some more. Changes mind about club choice.*

JUST BLOODY GET ON WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
