Don't point, shout FORE you idiots!

Watching the Irish open.... Time after the after time there are no shouts of fore, just a pointed finger. What good is that from 300+ yards away. Absolute joke.

In my opinion something needs to be done on the tours about this, pointing isn't good enough!

Now Rahm has just hit someone.... No shout, not even his normal pointing.... Just a quiet word of "bounce over it".... Then asking "did I see it correctly?". Commentator speculating that Rahm thought it was going to bounce over a bunker.....

    Not disagreeing with you but....
It would take a second or two to work out that a shout is necessary
    Another second to shout
Another second for the sound to get 300+ yards
Another second or two for people to hear and understand and another second to actually move.
    That's seven seconds
    The ball is already there.
Add into the equation that at these events there are a lot of people who make a reasonable amount of noise, especially if nobody is playing close by.
If people are actually watching play, a point/wave of a flag is going to be of more benefit than a shout.
Generally, people get hit because they're not paying attention.
They're one golf course and there are golf balls flying around. You need to be aware of what's going on.

None of the above excuses a player/caddy from shouting - they should still shout. But in reality it's not likely to prevent someone getting nutted...

Doesn't bother me when I've been to Tour events. I'm aware I'm at risk.
The guys there are playing for a million pounds or more. Last thing you want is hearing the shout of fore from an adjacent fairway at the top of your backswing.
On top of that I'm usually watching out for rogue balls anyway.

normally everyone on the tee box points too, not just the player who's pushed one.

Are they not issuing fines at the Irish Open for no shouts. Noticed more shouts than usual when I watched a bit of coverage yesterday.

Thats a european tour rule i believe. Fines for no shout, not that it seems to stop the no shouts.

I get the feeling this week that most of the time when an arm goes out it is more to alert the marshalls to where the ball is going so it can be found, as on some holes the crowd are away up on the dunes.

    Rahm carries it 300 yards

    A. Hitting it that long you can not always tell it is going towards the spectators
    B. Can you hear a shout of fore from 300 yards

Personally think it is a strange place for people to stand, adjacent to the landing area on a par 4 or 5

They might stand there to get a close up view of the approach shot.

Surely you'd want to see the second shots, so why wouldn't you stand near the landing area?

Re: Don't point, shout FORE you idiots!

Surely the point is that, when they are playing, the spectators lining the fairway are looking at them so a wave will give more warning than a shout. A shout is necessary when we play because the target is unlikely to be looking in our direction.
