    Re: And, we're off, 2017/18.......

    Was looking like a good game but the ref has ruined that.
    If the keeper is out of his box he is just another player you would not get sent off for that in midfield.
    Is he gonna send the next high boot off if the player goes down holding his head.
    I think he knows he got it wrong looking at his face

    That's definitely a red card. Foot high and wild. No debate.

    Here's an extract from the rules:
    <start>
    SERIOUS FOUL PLAY

    A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

    <end>

    Foot head high with studs showing seems to qualify for 'endangering the safety..' to me!

    Has indeed killed the game, which is a pity. Though De Bruyne seemed to be giving MC dominance anyway!

    It was reckless and clearly endangered another player which means it's a red card.

    100% red card.
    To say the ref as ruined the game is stupid.

    Are you seriously saying this is not a dangerous way to challenge for the ball?

    Looks very dangerous on the replay.

    Makes contact with his head fly kick style even with the keeper in the air.

    What's the difference with a 50/50 challenge and a defender goes sliding in with his foot shin high with studs showing and Mane foot head high with studs showing. Nothing in my view. Easily see why a red was given

    But he's severely endangering an opponent as he's out of control, because he's airborne, and he's late.
    Studs up into the face of an opponent whilst off the ground HAS to be very dangerous play, hence I believe that the red card was the correct decision.
