    Matchplay and the weather

A couple of friends of mine were due to play an in-house match a while ago, they had a nightmare pinning down dates and eventually settled on one.

The day comes round and one of them is going to be late so tells the other to start as its better ball and he will catch up after a couple of holes. When the one who was on time gets to the club the pair they are due to be playing decide they don't want to play as its windy, the course was however still open.

I would think that the only reason for postponing a match at that late stage would be if the course was closed and that if they didn't want to play because it was a bit windy the ones who did would be within their rights to claim the game if they cant amicably come to another outcome.

Obviously I'm only getting one side of the story but I'm interested to hear what other people think.

if the course is open, then you have to play unless all parties agree another date.

    Re: Matchplay and the weather

If all parties agree you can change it, but if its been scheduled, people took time out of their schedules to show up and one party wants to play it out then that is the end of it. Some people just lack any respect for others time.

Basically the same interpretation as wanting to resume with the course open after agreeing to walk in because its hideous out.

if you have fixed a date and turned up, play if they don't want to, claim it.

was it only going to be windy when they were hitting shots? the conditions were the same for all so what was their problem.

I hope you claimed it. Did anyone tee off though?

They might have a case if you were not standing on the tee waiting for them. Your actions could be construed as agreement to re-arrange. Make sure you have the events straight and a clear reason why the match is yours if you try and claim it.
