    LPGA Invite by Twitter Poll

    http://www.golfchannel.com/news/golf...-twitter-poll/

So basically they will alllow the most popular social media person an entry in the Pro event - and no doubt the most popular will be the prettiest lady.

Not exactly a great advert for the LPGA -
"It's called golf because all the other four letter words were already taken"

Said it before and will say it again, a large part of what they sell is sex appeal, FACT. Just look at how they dress.

This poll is "wrong" imo, but it's just an example of what the LPGA tour is.

Sounds like a splendid idea to me.
I'll be voting for Elise Lobb.

Just opened the LPGA website and looked at the three pictures they used in the banner. Does not look like they are trying to sell sex appeal to me.

Re: LPGA Invite by Twitter Poll

Im not saying this is right, it certainly isnt, but if this weekends tournament and coverage was anything to go by they need to do something different!

Funereal pace of play, Christie Kerr being told by her caddie just to wait (when windy) when she had been stood over a shot for several minutes already and then go right back to the start of a hideously long routine, taking over 5 minutes to take a drop from some cables and make a simple putt from the back of the green etc. A play off to the same hole 6 times (with a really badly positioned hole which made 4 really tough and 5 really easy).

Sky tried hard to give it main billing over the mens pairs event but clearly lost interest as the play off dragged on and on and started to show more and more of the mens event that by the time the winning approach was hit sky werent showing it live!

Re: LPGA Invite by Twitter Poll

Its different/original. It might work or fall on its face but there’s no real harm in giving it a go

Image, appearance & social media play a large part in mainstream sports and sports entertainment across both men and women’s sports these days, from Paige whatshername to Big Fat Goalie in the fa cup. It’s definitely a viable marketing opportunity but no idea whether it’ll be successful

I suspect sponsors normally invite (or pay) someone to play in the hope they will get some exposure and say nice things about them

Is it better/worse or just different marketing to a sponsor paying a Tiger/Rory type player a 7 figure sum to play (usually paid to players who qualified by right anyway but were not going to attend without getting his wad)

No other player is missing out here
