Should that be what makes a bad law? Should there not be some kind of inherent responsibility on society/individual people? Or should we all be monitored at all times?

Just having spent 45 minutes trying to get onto the BBC secure wireless network then apparently randomly - doing nothing different as far as I can recall - I get on...

As I am in the BBC Elstree Studios at the moment I think I will go grab a coffee and read my Grauniad to calm down...
    to infinity and beyond...

...well from 10.0 to 9.4 this year would be nice.

And with just the October medal to go - I've got to 8.3

    Job done

The second question is, how much does it actually add to your journey.... #devilsadvocate
    Typical Edinburgh council nonsense.

And yes it added time to my journey today but the main problem is driving in third gear on wide, almost traffic free roads (early start today), staring intently at your speedo.

I can't either. But if you make EVERY road in the city 20 mph you lose the benefit outside schools. People who are ignoring the new limit probably would have slowed down when they hit the isolated 20mph zones.

That's a good and fair point. I typically only really see 20mph zones near schools.
Some speed restrictions do seem out of place, that's for sure.

Re: Random irritations of the day.

Speed limits in general if they are not going to be policed.

The speed limit across the Blaydon bridge, past the Metrocentre and up to the Angel of the North is 50mph, yet I would say more than 50% of cars at any time are exceeding the speed limit, there is no police on the road.

As for the 20mph limits, great past schools, no argument there, and on busy roads through estates where kids are playing, but to blanket limit an entire area or region is pointless and nothing more than the council spending budgets for spending sake at the end of the financial year.

And on that note, councils spending money on pointless road changes just so they can spend their budget. Sticking up traffic lights where none are needed, like on roundabouts, painting bus lanes and causing more congestion because they reduce the road size for the same number of cars and then broadcasting people should use the bus to avoid the congestion they've caused, where as if they had just left things alone and improved the bus service there would be no bleeding congestion.
If you've been smoking something you shouldn't and you see something that walks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, then it's probably a dog or a bag of peas.

Are there not speed cameras along that stretch? I would be amazed if there were not. Big revenue maker for the council along there.
