Came 3rd in the end, we had two lip out birdies which would have won it for us, but Im sure every team could have said that.
We'll give it another go again next year.

Steady front 9 with a blob and a couple of birdies, lost focus a little on 11 and 12, going OB on both holes but then got it going again to finish on 32 points. Get those 2 drives inbounds and I'd have been on handicap.....
Annoying as I hit a dozen decent drives and 2 stinkers...😥

I'd heard a lot about Swinley Forest and it was obvious when you first arrived and looked down the the 1st & 18th fairways from the clubhouse, it wasn't going to disappoint.

I was feeling OK even though I'd played all weekend and had been away at Ashburnham for 2 days in the week and had to start out at 5am to be at Swinley for 7am for my bacon roll, which unfortunately I couldn't eat as I don't like smokey bacon and they didn't have anything else they'd substitute it for me

Only a very few scattering of forumites were present as I looked around the clubhouse and got myself ready for my start off the 1st tee, so no drive for me

Standing on the 1st tee with 2 lads from Camberley Heath, of which there seemed to be quite a few of, I didn't know what shot shape was going to be the order of the day, I didn't want to go left where I'd seen a few hook their balls and the right wasn't so bad between the 1st & 18th fairways but still a little rough looking, so I nailed it down the middle leaving me my trusty 4w to finish a yard short left of the green, a nice chip to 2ft and a par start, what's not to like

The rest of the front 9 pretty much stayed like that, parring 3 more (4 in total on the front) both the par 3's which were very tricky and a nice birdie on the first par5 5th hole for 21 points on the turn

A sausage roll and tea at the halfway hut and I started the back 9 as I'd finished the front 9 with another par on the par 3 10th, I think the longest par3 of the day

I then got in all kinds of trouble on the 11th with my first poor drive of the day which was short and into the heather. I didn't know where I was aiming tbh and hooked it slightly into the last trees on the left and it came back into the fairway heather. The drive was slightly blind and I tried to steer it and failed, hacked out of the heather forward about 15 yards into more heather then hacked out again straight into a fairway bunker, out of that bunker and into another fairway bunker 30 yards forward of that and it was all over, what a stinking hole for me that was

That episode actually took a lot out of me and I was huffing & puffing, so much so I then had a run of poor holes scrambling for double bogey single points from that point with the odd net par thrown in but then another nice par (sand save) on the last par 3 and then the 18th beckoned....

I couldn't believe how far the longest drive pin was, did we have a pro in the comp for the day anyway I ignored it and hit a nice drive down the middle, slightly to the left of the fairway by the fairway bunker but on the short stuff, a quick check of all the yardages and I had 165yds to the pin, it was a large green and I had 179yds to the back and it was a very steep uphill fairway to the clubhouse in a slight headwind, so I played it as a 200yd shot believing if I flushed it I'd be at the back of the green, anything slightly off that I should be more than OK, well that was the thought process anyway I reached for my 4w and creamed it, the purest strike ever and it flew, and flew, and flew right over the green, through the practice putting green and nestled 1ft short of the patio by the steps I couldn't see this at the time so I didn't take a provisional, I knew it was long but not by how far disappointing end blobbing the 18th leaving me with 33 points, which in the grande scheme of things was a good knock but should have and could have been a lot better

A great day, company was very good, food was excellent, 5 for a pint of London Pride was scandalous, but the main event being the course was superb and standing on every tee box it was a chocolate box moment and I felt privileged, even though it was a lot to pay out for the day, to play such a wonderful looking course.

Re: I played today and...(Rolling thread)

Today I played at Little Aston, in a mixed open with DarrenWilliams and his wife Joanne and son Adam.

Little Aston is a very nice course and I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I do not think it is a patch on say Sandiway or Delamere, or even Manchester and Pleasington. Someone said it was better that Beau Desert but I disagree. There are some lovely holes but I think that if you take away all the bunkers and it would not be a difficult course.

Onto the golf we had a great front nine, I played well apart from one hole and Adam was on fire just 2 over gross and we scored an impressive 45 points.
Sadly we could not keep up such good scored and only managed 39 on the back nine for a total of 84. The leading score when we left was 90, ironically by the team including a girl I play in a lot of opens.

My personal tally was 34 points, which included 2 blobs and a couple of 3 putts.
