    Re: Declaring a ball OOB

If you look at the associated changes to rule 30 I think you get a clue as to the thinking.

Previously you were able to elect which ball to continue with when you had played a provisional. 1964...

    Re: Declaring a ball OOB

So what you are saying is that after someone has taken an action that turns his perception into reality you would wish to correct any mistaken perception he may have briefly held, there and then.......

    Re: Declaring a ball OOB

There's nothing to correct? He has hit another ball, without declaring it a provisional, rendering the ball lost.

His declaration that the ball is lost is lost has no meaning, or function.

    Re: Adjusting foliage

Rulefan has given a full response already, but I would just add that it's good practice when getting set to play from such situations to make it obvious that the club is resting under its own weight...

    Re: Adjusting foliage

    No it isn't.

    Rule 13-2 covers it.

    Relevant parts
A player must not improve or allow to be improved:

the position or lie of his ball, the area of his intended*stance
    *or swing,his*line of...

    Re: Ball-marker moved (Van Rooyen)

Part of the problem is that the LR is quite pervasive, but not referenced in the effected sections of (even) the online version of the current rules.

    Rules*18-2,*18-3*and*20-1*are modified as...
  8. Re: Moving ball in a bunker for better lie

Firstly you need to separate the current competition with any subsequent, and separate, committee action.

    Dealing with the competition.
If the player has returned the card and signed for a score...

Re: Too dependant on a certain club?

The last 6 weeks of weather have created conditions that will easily influence people - especially with long irons.

    Re: Strategies to lower handicap

I'll pick up on two bits.

Firstly the last (I'm like that!).

The point I was making was that when, say, 150 to the centre, an important consideration (for improving scoring) is to consider...

    Re: Strategies to lower handicap

Taking this, and your comments about strategy in all your posts, I am afraid I see a very muddled approach - which is always over and above your actual swing capability whatever level you play at.

Re: Allocating of a handicap ?

Nothing's changed much - the principle remains but the details of the calc get tweaked occassionally.

Allocated 11 his best card will probably have been 12 over SSS adjusted for any large scores...

I'm afraid this got me laughing out loud!

My answer would be that, from a philosophical perspective, you can't cheat yourself.

    Simples.

Re: Score at the End of a Match

Met this for the first time last year in the semi-finals of the Kent Vets Knockout. 3 pairs but halves don't count so we had 1 win and 2 halves after 18 holes....and ended up loosing the match!

  17. Re: Your clubs comp schedule and qualifying?

  18. Re: Should a Supplimentary be considered to be a Qualifying Competition??

It depends on the wording of the conditions of competition.

We don't require 3 Q comps, we require 3 competitions - the purpose of the rule being that people who wish to enter Trophy competitions...

Re: Score at the End of a Match

If the score matters then the players need to agree what it is on that green - it's that simple.

E.g. in your first example B needs to establish whether his putt is conceded before he picks it up!

    Re: Medal play - Joke!

Does seem very unfair that someone who is handicapped on their performance over 17 holes should then have to compete and include their score on the 18th as well.

    Grossly unfair even.
