Hi guys, after selling my old car (finally) I decided that I should get some irons that were actually forgiving when I played as opposed to my Ben Sayers Parity, which came from like the 1940s, or so I assumed due to the lack of knowledge about the model. My aim was to get a used set hopefully from about 2000.
I went into NB and looked at their second hand irons. I ended up taking 5 different clubs out on the range to hit - 2 versions of Calloways Big Bertha, Ping Zing 2, Ping i3 and a Benross model.
Despite the Ping Zing 2s being pretty old (1994) I was routinely hitting better shots with this club - even the shots that i didn't strike well were going in the right direction, but just coming up shorts, whereas usually they would take a wicked slice.
Now my aim was to get a set that harnessed technology slightly more, in order to make the path as easy for me as possible. So now I'm at home and I don't know whether to be disappointed or not that I got such an old model...
I'm playing tomorrow and the guy at NB said if I'm not happy with them, I have 30 days to take them back and I can have another look - so it's not the be all and end all at the moment, a lot will depend on how i hit these out on the course tomorrow.
I guess i just wanted opinions on whether there could perhaps be better irons out there for me (my friend recommended the mx-15s to me)I mean 14 years is a long time - surely they would have easier clubs to hit now?
On a more positive note - I picked up a 33' Wilson Staff putter and i'm really looking forward to using it, I'm really hoping we get along great!

Well....i.m.o. the Zing 2s were a cracking club. Old, but the perimeter design is probably as forgiving as many a newer club. If they went well and you feel they suit you, then be happy and enjoy! also i.m.o. a top notch club from yesteryear is as good as a more modern "lower end" model....not necessarily in terms of suitability, but maybe in quality.

Seem to remember them getting quite a hype in the 80's when they came out and were seen as pretty decent clubs for their time. If they feel good then stick with them. I presume the i3 superceded the zing 2 but have since been passed by the G5 and G10.
Good sales policy though from NB to give you 30 days. Hope you get on with them. Let us know tomorrow how they went

Well I was disappointed with my first round with them - I didn't strike the ball cleanly at all. I went round in 99, which is only one shot off my best score there and even though it was only my 6th round, I was hopeful of slightly more.
However, I went back yesterday and hit an 87 which is pretty amazing for me. I hit 6 pars, which I think it's more than all my previous pars combined. The irons felt great and I guess I'll be sticking with them now. Thanks guys
