Ive just beeen asked what I want for my anniversary present this year by H.I.D. and as I have just returned to golf this year after many years,(just got my new handicap of 20) I thought........Golf Lesson (or lessons).
Then it got me thinking about should I just get one to see if my game is saveable, and if I do get one would it be for Driving?,Iron play?,bunkers?,pitching? putting?........ because I dont really know what part of my game is in need of help (probably all of it).
If I got a package of lessons would they cover the whole spectrum of the game?? and how often should I take them?? should I spread them over the Winter Season so that I can start next Summer with all my faults ironed out, or should I take them weekly so that it is easier to apply the changes (or corrections) while playing through Winter.
I know that I could go to my nearest Pro/Driving Range and ask for help there, but I feel I would get better constructive advise form all on this forum.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered

how about seeing if your pro will give you an on course assessment?

Depends what you want out of the lessons. Do you want to try & make a big change in one fell swoop to your game & say book a set of 6 lessons over six weeks, or do you want to have an ongoing improvement where you can work on a part of your game through a month or two between lessons.
I tend to have a lesson every month or two months. Which gives me a chance to take in certain aspects of the game & the lesson over the month or two months. However something I've been toying with is to take a special intensive golf tutorial break, or having a double lesson of two hours instead of the usual one hour lesson.
I could advise having lessons over the winter or sayign wait till the spring for various reasons. But its up to you as there really are pro's & con's to both. If I was to advise anything I'd say have "A" lesson now & work on whatever the pro advises between now & the early spring, when the course is starting to get into a fit state & playing more on the course than on the range.

Most pros will do block booking (6 for the cost of 5 etc). My advice would be if possible to start with a playing lesson (even if it is only 3 or 4 holes) so the pro can get an idea of how you play on the course. If not feasible you need to get an assessment lesson first so he can see how you hit various shots (drives, long irons, mid irons, shots from <100 yards and chipping and bunker play).
From there you both need to sit down and discuss what are the weakest aspects and what needs the most attention. In your shoes I'd opt to spread it over the winter months so that come February/March when hopefully the worst of the winter will have gone you will be in prime position to get out on the course with a new swing ready grooved.
Just my opinion but whatever you decide to do let us all know how it is going

I'll echo many of the points above. Most pro's will tailor you lessons to fit what YOU want. Obviously you have to decide what parts of the game you need to remedy. In my case I'll be looking to vastly improve my iron play.
I'd also suggest you take your lessons on grass if possible. It's one thing perfecting your game at the range, but it's a whole lot different on the course.
