Usain Bolt - zoooommm!
      #54481 - 16/08/2008 15:57

Wow,
Just watched 100m in Bejing, Usain Bolt took them all apart showboating over the line in a new world record - looked fantastic with 90,000 people watching.
I can't be bothered with the Olympics in general (swimming, hockey, shooting, equestrian etc....yawn) but today I enjoyed Chris Hoy's win in the kierin track cycling but this 100m sprint was fantastic, got quite nervous watching, so much tension.
Michael Phelps might win 8 gold medals but there is no excitement watching swimming and Usain Bolt is far and away the star of this Olympics even before the 200m starts!.

The guy is awesomely quick.

Have to agree BM to me the Olympics is track and field. Saying that, we'd look a bit sick in the medals table without the other events wouldn't we?

Victorious on the cycle track, rowing and in the swiming pool. Outstanding achievements from Team GB, especially Adlington winning her 2nd gold in the pool.

Quite amazing. From the point where he first looks to his right at about 65m he's just winding down and more or less just steps over the line with everyone else at least a meter behind. From 10m to 60m is the fastest bit of acceleration from a human were ever likely to see.

Just think what he would have done if he'd held the throttle open to the line!

either way 9.65 decimates the world record - just brilliant.

Can't wait to see it when I get home from work. It sounds amazing.
Do you think he's like a cheetah and has to lie down under a tree for the rest of the day now?
On another note, Does Chris Hoy have a chance of another medal?

Loved the way at 80 metres Bolt's already got his arms wide open , accepting the acclaim and at 90mtrs he starts tapping his Jamaican vest - Total showman...and typical Jamaican cool.

Been a fantastic day all round for team GB as well....

yep,sorry I got that wrong, it's 9.69

Well done to Addlington smashing the ladies 800meters freestyle . Knocked 2 seconds off the WR - clean. Longest standing womens record. I actually don't think I could do that distance in half an hour and need several stops on the way and swimming is the only sport I'm even half good at - she did it in 8 minutes- just fantastic.

How good are Britain at rowing and cycling too eh?

We don't get much to be proud of these days but here's a chance. Grab a beer, sit down with the highlights tonight and enjoy.

Great title to the post, It was spectacular to see. He gets a big sponsor bonus every time he breaks the world record, so that's the reason of him slowing down, he will keep getting faster.

So how low can he go?
I reckon if he really ran for the line he could have beaten that by 0.06 or 0.07 seconds at best as a 10th of a second equates to roughly a metre in distance at the speed these sprinters go and he could have made up the best part of a metre with a dip on the line.
Was a brand new track which always helps fast times and the weather was perfect.

I only hope that I don't read in 3 months time that he is on something. If he is clean, wow.

Here's hoping.

agreed.

Dont' know why they don't just usher the finalists off the track and straight into a booth to provide blood and urine as standard- especially when a new WR is created.

This could work for any sport. Alright, top athletes going to look like a pincushion or smack head down their arms after a couple of successful years but they could wear those marks like a badge of honour rather than the hit and miss system we have now.

Chambers, for example, would have been caught as soon as he started breaking through at the AAA's stage and we could have avoided an expensive and damaging courtcase.

I hope Bolt is properly tested and I hope for the sake of human endevour that he's found clean.

4th in the medal table- not bad eh?

Nah,
Most of the sprinters that take drugs look like bodybuilders, totally musclebound. Bolt is odd in that he shouldn't be a sprinter according to his build i.e tall and skinny. That's all natural speed I'm sure.
Watch the 200m heats on BBC sport website and watch his legs compared to the guy from Trinidad who qualified just ahead of him, the Trinidad guy's legs are going like pistons but Bolt looks like he's jogging!
He just has a huge stride that's eats up the ground.

I would like to think you are right in this, as he certainly doesn't look like a sprinter, but isn't that all the more amazing.

May be he is on something new. That makes you very tall and skinny. May be he used to be 5ft 2 and 18 stone before he started on it, and will finish up 16ft tall and 5 stone wringing wet. Who knows?

Agree he is an unusual build for a sprinter. I believe the given wisdom is that long levers require more torque (often at the expense of brute speed) and therefore need muscles that are sized in sympathy with that structure (i.e. like a powerlifter for Bolt's height) and this would add mass which slows you down and so on ad infinitum....... and yet his legs/hips are only really in proportion with his overall build.

It would be very exciting if he's developed some new combination of training regime, diet and modus operadi in his stride that accounts for this astounding feat.

Everytime I watch a replay of it I get goosebumps it's so good.

the only thing he takes is nitrus .......dont go near his rear with a naked flame. regarding build look at carl lewis he was a totally natural athlete not pumped up. another amazing thing i heard was the diet of micheal phelps..........if he stops swimming and keeps the diet up he will be a contender in sumo wrestling.

Wasn't Carl Lewis 'at it' along with Christie and Johnson circa 1988-92. I'm sure that is more than just hearsay.
Never understood why the Lewis's called their son Carl and their daughter Carol? Seems daft to me!
