Evening all (again)
Just a quick one to say I haven't got any real news on the proposed forum day GM were asked to get involved trying to set up.
I chased up my contact on Wednesday but he was still waiting to hear back from the venue about what sort of availability they might have Monday - Friday of the week beginning 29th September
Rest assured I'll let you know more as and when I do.
Also just wanted to address the fact the proposed Midlands location was gong to exclude the Scottish forumers on the grounds it was too far to travel.
The Midlands is being explored as we were asked to get involved and help get a day sorted by forum members (the ‘C’Mon GM’ post) and this is an area where we have a few good contacts and were we could feasibly get a few staff to in order to support the day given where we are based (London)
I do realise this might we rule out Scottish, Irish and some English and Welsh forumers but in reality its going to be impossible at such short notice to organise somewhere that's accessible for each and everyone of you.
My thoughts are lets see how well supported this one is and then we can start thinking about organising something on a grander scale for next year.
If however the potential Midlands location is an issue for a lot of forum members and you wanted to organise something further north then that’s fair enough. GM would have to step aside and let you sort the venue as we wouldn’t be able to get involved and support the day in a formal way.
Let me know what you all think

Well that's the thing I suppose when certain people need to negotiate the M25 doing it in the early hours of the morning is not so bad, of course traveling theother way for instance someone from the midlands might struggletogetdown to Kent easily. I'm thinking of the time I decided it would be a good idea to go & play Tudor Park for a couple of days.
A mate of mine keeps going on about how cheap it is to get budget flights internally, too & from Scotland etc. tbh Its not an idea I'm totally sold on, then of course it takes a lot to get me out of my car.
But a flight to Birmingham airport or East Midlands airport would be an ideal stopping off point for many. I for one would be more than happy to pick up people from east midlands airport assuming I can get the week off work & especially when in early October I'm playing Nefyn & Royal St Davids when Harlech's winter rates start.
I suppose I could use the GM week as a warm up for our welsh marathon playing 5 rounds in three days.
I've no problem driving an hour or maybe two from where I am. Heck I'd more than happily drive 3hours back up to the North East of England for a decent weeks golfing.
Heard good things about one or two courses up there recently.

For me, its not the drive and I would have considered getting a flight but I am off to Benidorm with the lads the week before and the spouse would go radio rental if I bu66ered off to play golf.
N-joy it lads as these forum days are a blast.

Im sure if a few from Hampshire were going we could share travel costs between us. The same with most other areas. Look forward to next update and thanks for trying to organise something.

I really dont mind where we play, and I dont even mind giving somebody a lift if they want it, too share costs. Its only once a year so will be willing to go the extra mile(s) to come along and get involved! Am in whatever the location, as along as all is well with work and nothing crops up in the mean time!

Mike, stick with the Midlands venue and see how it goes. I have no doubt that it will be well recieved, especially if you can do something with a hotel on site, and if that is the case look at doing something in a different location next year. I am going to be away so will not be able to attend (gutted). like you said, you are not going to be able to please everyone...that's life.

Mike I think you're right to stick with Midlands and see how it goes. Would love to be there but will just have to see how things pan out with work etc. Hope some of the other Forum ladies will make it.

Perhaps a quick survey of where interested people live in order to decide where in the midlands is best for most.

I will travel to wherever, I can accomodate a passenger from up't north or enroute.
See how it goes then as MikeH says, look for something on a grander scale next year with more notice.

Midlands won't be an issue for me, once we know where/when we can work out routes and see who is nearby/en route for pick-ups etc.
