Got one similar for christmas. Great fun but they soon lose the novelty value, especially when you get a rollicking from the missus for flying milimetres from her head!

they are good fun but be careful what they crash into- they do break quite easily- although mine did come with some spare parts but they only lasted for the duration of 2 or 3 crashes.

That particular kind doesnt fly very well and avoid open windows, een little gusts make it unflyable. You will get fed up very quick spinning and going up and down as thats pretty much all it can do, get your hands on a 3 or 4 channel model instead, they are more expensive but will fly so much better. This one will maybe get you hooked enough to splash the cash haha.

The game is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym and on the range, long before I even make the first tee.

Confession time. I ordered the 3 channel TandemZ-1 (based on a Chinook I think) as well when I got home for exactly the reasons you mention.

For less than the cost of a Playstation game or a night down the pub - what the hey?
Take a look at this if you need any further convincing folks;

Maybe it's because I was an early seventies kid and this stuff was an impossible dream then that I'm so enthralled. I seem to remember an orange jubbly, a chocolate Mousse from Bejams, some white chocolate penny tools and an Evil Knevil or Action man was the summit of all childhood dreams when I was a kid.
I used to go to Beaties when I was a bit older and drool over the radio controlled cars. I eventually got one ( a Tamiya Frog), built it and enjoyed it but they need space and I ain't got none. Helicopters? that was for rich kids with lots of space and money.
I'm nearly as excited as I was when I hit my first pure iron shot!
what's the next step up from that Brendy?(remember I live in a flat so a ten foot long , petrol powered Apache/Huey with a fully functional chain gun deck, Sidewinders and anti-chaff pods is out of the question.............for now)

You could d without the sidewinders though the gatling guns are a must!! http://www.rc-gajitz.co.uk/24ghz-walkera-43b-micro-hobby-radio-control-helicopter-52-p.asp would be a great if expensive upgrade, im only following other fellas and have yet to get anything worth posting. http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Gadgets/Radio+control/SuperFlier+Micro+RC+Helicopter?productId=29375 is cheap as chips too for an absolute beginner.

blimus! that's amazing. Wondering if the title of his site is a play on 'Tunnels and Trolls' which was a spin off RPG for kids like me that couldn't afford the heavyweight tombs of AD&D?
To be able to paint like that alone is genius!
I loved 40k when it came out and not having the skills, money nor franky- group of patient friends around to really go for it I never got sucked in as far as I might.
Fortunately, Blizzard released Starcraft and when I can afford to upgrade this Mac- Starcraft 2
http://www.blizzard.com/us/starcraft/
I went to a modelling convention at Wembley Conference Centre when I was about 14 and met a guy who sounds very similar to your friend - maybe it was him? Inspirational, built all his models from bits and bobs then painted 'em up to look like they had been built by Nasa design engineers.
I spent about 5 years in the film and TV industry and spent quite a lot of time at Shepperton with the the guys from Panavision who had a service department there at the time. They had a few of the Red Dwarf models dotted around the service bay (RD was made a Shepperton) and I was able to take a really good look at them - The Bug for example is about 18 inches long. Your friends' skills are easily a match for those.
The PicooZ and Tandem will probably more than keep my interest for a while without cutting down on golf time, giving up work, living to 200 years old, stop playing guitar and totally narking Mrs BillyG off all of which would be needed to reach those standards.
I'll pop on a field report and maybe a low res. vid here at some point if I don't mash the think to bits in five minutes.
Brendy- yes, the Walkera 4:3b seems the next and maybe final step for someone living in a small flat in central London that doesn't want the full weight of a City old Bill fast response squad being brought to bear on them
cheers all,
bill
