Got a call from our secretary on Wednesday who asked if I could play in a Mixed match for the club this coming Sunday.
With a h/c of 26 its something you don't expect to happen. I believe its come about because some guys are playing in a County match, its the last weekend for one of our rounds of our pairs knockout and of course some people are away on holiday. I would imagine I was something like 50th reserve.
I'm looking at it as a one cap wonder, you know like these footballers who play for England at the end of the season because of players pulling out of the squad through numerous reasons. Any way I'm looking forward to it, and we are playing a format ''Greensomes'' which I have never played before so that should be good. To be honest I was so surprized to be asked I didn't ask the secretary who my partner will be, so I dont even know, will my partner be a female or a male, and if it is a female what tee do they play off.
It also means that I get to play both days this weekend, which is something I rarely get to do. Saying that and looking at the calender I see that I'm now playing both Saturday and Sunday for the next 3 weeks.......happy days!!

Enjoy it. I often get picked for the friendly club matches (its a put your name down job and they pick a team from the list) and although there is a bit of pressure to get the win its not an ultra competitive atmoshere of the scratch or A teams.
These things are great for getting your name known in the club and by the powers that be and could serve you well. Out of interest is it at home(where do you play) or away. If its away at least you get to play another course too

Hi fred
Well if it's a mixed match your going to be playing with a lady.
Greensomes is where you both drive off and you choose the best drive then it's alternate shots, e.g if you choose her drive you play the next shot.

Hey Funky don't put yourself down, i'm sure you wouldn't have been 50th reserve (no more than 49th ) seriously i imagine you would have been selected because your a solid or very good 26 handicapper and seen as a safe pair of hands in a match.
Just make sure you win!!!....and also enjoy the experience.

Greensomes seems a strange format for a mixed comp. 4somes is more normal. You can be quite tactical in greensomes though particularly if different players have different strengths.

I've never played in any matches at my club as I'm a bit too inconsistent yet but in a few months I wouldn't mind giving it a go. Someone who had to pull out must have put your name forward as a solid golfer who could take their place so take that as a compliment.
I guess try to relax & enjoy it as best you can because chances are your own team aren't expecting much from you but that's a good thing as you're in a no lose situation. If you lose the match it'll be what they expected but if you win you'll have put yourself forward as a good candidate for the next match.

Homer, we are at home which is The Kent & Surrey G.C used to be known as Edenbridge. Dont expect it to be to competitive, but I always try my best no matter what I play. The good thing is regardless of the result, I will enjoy it.
Faldo Fun, Yeah you might be right perhaps I was only 49th on the list. Not so sure about the solid safe pair of hands title though. More likely to be ''can hit the occasional great shot'' perhaps my reasonable chipping and fairly good putting (av this year 34.2)is what got me in.
So if I am playing with a lady do they tee off on the mens tee (yellow) or do they play off the reds, and what happens when you play holes that have a different par (for the ladies), er matchplay, I think I might have just answer my own question.

Well his partner is going to have a pair of tits. Is that going to help?
