During a weekend away at my Brother and Sister in laws, I had the usual invite to play Brother in laws course, Frilford Heath in Oxford.
As we pulled into the car park I noticed a guy about to open what looked like a small Horse box that he'd towed in in his car. I jokingly said, "Has he got a donkey to carry his bag around"? "Oh no", said my Brother in law, "Thats his own personal buggy that he brings for every round". We walked over to him and he said, "I've just picked her up from the garage after having her annual service".
Really made me smile and thought, there's commitment for you.

At my previous club there was a guy who'd had cancer and couldn't walk much. He converted his 4 wheel mobility scooter - the ones you see around town - to use on the course. Kept him playing.
Top man in my book.

A friend of mine bought one a couple of years back, as he cant play without a buggy due to health reasons. I think he said it cost him £800 and it paid for itself within 8 months.
Rolls up in his London Taxi black cab, with the buggy in the back, which just about fits in. Often shoots off to find our way wood tee shots before we get there.

Guy at my club drives his out of his garage, down the road to the canal, along the tow path to the golf course, plays 18, and then drives home the same way. Doesn't drink either.

At my previous club we used to have a guy (the then current captains brother)with what can only be described as a quad bike......rudest opponent i've ever played, he'd hit his ball wait for you to hit then raced off after his, no conversation, all you saw all round was his back and this quad roaring off into the distance!!!!.....charming! You know who you are Mr Neale at Caddington Golf Club (formerly Griffin Golf Club).

I don't think he cared a great deal and was the captains brother, there other brother was the bar steward.....or some similar sounding name!!!!!
I felt a bit sorry for the Skipper as he was a decent chap, but his two brothers were both A...holes!

45 holes a day -no wonder he's good. Can't be married -or then again?
Had a pal die of lung cancer last year, last time I saw him was the week before he died coming off the last green admitting he was a bit puffed!, he knew he had cancer -told no-one. Theres dedication. If there's golf in heaven I bet he headed straight for the first tee, if not he's probably designing the course. Raise a glass in memory of Ernie Williams - a golfing saint.

A new memebr of my golf society joined our trip to Ireland a few years ago. He loved the company and crack so much he came the following year even through he couldn't play as he had just had both hips replaced! He was the life and soul of the weekend and his name is top of the invites list each year. Thankfully he is back playing now and enjoying a slow improvement on his handicap.

On a recent sojourn to Afghanistan, I watched a guy in Kandahar hit tennis balls with what looked like a 7 iron off a piece of astro turf. It must have been about 35 degrees, but his swing looked really smooth! That's proper dedication for you!
