Somewhere new to play in Ireland
      #140692 - 02/07/2009 13:05

Lough Erne, another to add to the list. Anyone had the pleasure or got plans?

It does look excellent. My society travels to Ireland each year, although we normally play in the south, nothing personnal, I would recommend trying Shannon GC a real gem. If anybody makes it over there, have a look at the stone marker alongside the 18th fairway showing the place where Greg Norman's drive ended up, and stand back in amazement!
we're thinking about next year's trtip already and are thinking of trying a new area, perhaps near Clifden, does anybody have any suggestions for venues?

I haven't been down there in a while but on my last visit I played Connemara GC and Westport GC. Connemara is a fantastic links course just south of Clifden and Westport, although a bit further away, is well worth the trip and is one of the best parkland courses in the west of Ireland.

Brendy, I wouldnt rush to play Castlerock, most over hyped course and not a patch on Portstewart or Portrush, I was gobsmacked when Golf Monthly or Golf World (cant remember which one it was) rated Castlerock ahead of Portstewart.

Its a nice course thats it.

As far as i know Louch Erne is going to be the most expensive course to play in ireland so i will be giving it a miss, plenty of good courses around cliffden if u are willing to drive a bit.
