Surprising what's on your doorstep!
      #140658 - 02/07/2009 09:51

Met up with Sammeeebee yesterday at Lee On Solent Golf Club yesterday. Who I must thank for the treat! Cheers.

This golf club must be one of the nearest golf clubs to me, yet I didn't realize what a little gem it is. I thought that is was on the coast, but nope, it's inland a little.

Compared to my usual haunt, the surfaces of the fairways are quite hard, meaning that I should have read the thread about 'playing from tight / hard lies' more closely!
The greens were very nice, and overall I was really quite impressed with the whole course. All the chaps that we encountered were very nice. There was sereral groups waiting on the first tee, we got asked through as a two ball instantly, which was nice. We also got called through by another group later on in the game. I'm not used to this treatment! Shame my game fell apart at the same point though. If anyone gets a chance to play there. I'd recommend it.

Onto the game. Sam plays off 5, and me 27.4! We agreed that he'd give me a shot a hole on matchplay. TBH I was a little nervous, as the last time we met was at Crowborough for the 'pace of play' feature. Well. Let's put it this way, I wasn't exactly playing very well that day! At Sam's request I won't comment on the score at the turn, but Sam eventually won. In Stableford terms, I had 18 points on the front 9 and 4 on the back 9! Oh dear!

However, regardless of the back nine performance, I had a really good afternoon. Thanks Sam.

Excellent, I'll take a note of it, as that would only be 20 to 25 miles away from me.
