Hello Everyone

Greetings from Italy, I've just joined this forum. I'm already an active member of two golf forums (fora?) in Italy, and wanted to expand my reach a little bit...

Re: Hello Everyone

I live in northern Italy, in a town called Varese, just 5 miles from the Swiss border.

My daughter (13 yrs.old) plays at the Golf Club Varese (http://www.golfclubvarese.it), and I'll probably join her there next year. I'm currently member of a smaller (9 holes) club.

I'm also planning a trip to Scotland next year, I'd love to play there. Any suggestions are most welcomed, of course...

Re: Hello Everyone

You're coming to the right place, Stefano.

Which courses were you hoping to play? My personal favourites are Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, Royal Dornoch and Nairn but they all come at a heavy price. You would find great courses in any part of the country, though.

Welcome to the friendliest and best forum on the interwebthingy.

Re: Hello Everyone

A friend asked me to try golf 7 years ago, when I was 45, and I've instantly become addicted. Unfortunately my golf hasn't progressed much, and my hcp is still 31.3 - the only way to lower the hcp in Italy is by reaching 37 or more Stableford points in an official tournament, and I always play terribly in competitions. During my week-end rounds with my friends, I usually shoot in the low 90's.

I've brought my daughter to the driving range when she was 7 years old, and now - at 13 - her hcp is 11 (much better than her dad).

About equipment - I'm one of those people who feel the impulse to buy new things even if I don't need them (shop-aholic?), so I have bought a lot of clubs (at least 3 sets), especially after my golf bag had been stolen last year. I usually put in my bag those I feel I'll need on the course, choosing among:
- Cleveland Launcher 460 10.5°, UST ProForce V2 shaft
- Cobra F-Speed fwy woods (3, 5, 7) with Aldila NV-F shaft
- Bridgestone GC OS 19° Hybrid, Aldila Gravity Chamber shaft
- Bridgestone GC OS 4-GW, Aldila Gravity Chamber shaft
- Cleveland 588 56° SW
- Cleveland DSG RTG 60° LW
- Cobra Optica SL-03 34" or BH Bettinardi (depending on the greens)

Welcome!

...and there's that Bridgestone brand again - rare as rocking horse you-know-what, that is. Anyone else checked it out??

Re: Hello Everyone

Welcome to a great forum.

I promise to not mention Ray Houghtons goal in the Giants Stadium at USA 94, again.

Let us know what part of Scotland you plan to visit.

Enjoy your golf.

First of all, I'd like to thank you all for the *really* warm welcome
I haven't made any plans yet, but my idea is to take advantage of those low cost flights (Ryanair, EasyJet, etc.) that link Milan to either Glasgow (Prestwick) or Edinburgh. Just to give you an idea, a few friends on an Italian golf forum (golfacademy.it) have organized a one-day golf trip with Ryanair last year: we flew from Milan to Girona (Barcelona, Spain) at 8AM, played 18 holes at the Girona Golf Club, had a wonderful dinner there and returned to Milan at 11:30PM. All for less than 150 Euros (flight, car rental, green fee, dinner), and they even gave me a polo shirt!
I've been to Scotland a few times in the past, and I know how wet it can be, that doesn't really scare me. Now, if we (I mean, my wife and my daughter) decide to come in April, then we will be limited to a one week trip, if we decide to postpone to June, then it can be two weeks or more.

Re: Hello Everyone

2 weeks or more?

Then you could visit the North of England and play on the coast, choosing from Either Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool or Royal lytham& St Annes, not to mention the many other excellent courses we have in the North West.

Home of the Stableford? You can find that at Wallesey.
You ever fancy a knock round this way, give me a shout!

Re: Hello Everyone

haha, to be honest, one of the information girls dropped in a booklet they had delivered into my security office and it was on the desk at the time. It was golf booklet on the coast with those courses listed, and many more. I thought I would just pitch in a few more idea and extend the offer of a game, seeing as he is traveling a long way! But same goes for anyone up my way, anytime!
