Kit you wouldn't recommend or just don't get on with or use.
      #51633 - 23/07/2008 14:22

Everyone on here seems to be very happy with the kit they own. Is it sub-conscious, because we spent our hard earned on the stuff?

We're also very good at recommending the kit that we own.

How about kit that we own that we didn't get on with or now just leave in the garage. You never know, someone might get on with your 'bad' kit, and voila, toot emptied from garage, and one happy Mrs.

For starters, I have a chipper that I never got on with, a toe weighted mallet putter, and a Ram Wizard 60 degree lob wedge which I upgraded to the Mizzy MPR, sitting around doing nowt. I also have 50 plus balls that I will never use on the course. An old Dunlop twin strap bag and a couple of cheap Donnay woods (5 and 7). Oops, almost forgot the Ram Wizard 17 degree rescue an'all.

--------------------
In the bag - for the time being!
Mizzy MX 500 12.5
Mizzy CLK 17
Mizzy CLK 20
Mizzy MX19's (minus 3 iron)
Mizzy MPR Series Black Nickel 52 wedge
Mizzy MPR Series Black Nickel lob wedge 60/09
Oddessy White Hot No7 (Fangs)
Srixon Z-URS
And the latest aquisition - a GoKart

Don't use a Ram Wizard 16 deg rescue and 2 lynx wedges 48 and 52.

Replaced the Ram with a Cobra DWS.

Got a PW with my MX17's so the 48 came out the bag and the 52 is still in there but haven't used for months, both look really nice but they are forged blade style wedges and a liiiiiitle beyond my skills

Like most golfers I change my kit fairly regularly, but although most of it is top end stuff, it is mainly worn quite severely before being replaced. (putters excluded, but then I never sell putters).

The only clubs I have which are in even half reasonable nick are a TM rescue tp 16° with dynamic gold S400 shaft (replaced with a 5 wood), and a TM R7 quad (legal US version) with an Aldila NV 65S shaft in it (I love this driver, but now use a Titleist 907 D1 for no particular reason). I am not sure I would sell these either.

I also have a Cleveland 588 series 56° wedge in gun metal which is a bit worn, but still serviceable.

My record with buying kit is pretty good, in that I rarely buy something I don't get on with. Must be lucky I guess.

I would not recommend;

Srixon AD333 balls; overrated and more expensive than similar balls. I bought a dozen and ended up giving 6 away. I know a lot of you rate them but they werent my cup of tea. Give me a warbird or noodle anyday, or pro-v's when I'm flush!!!

Square Drivers; not that there is anything intrinsically wrong with the idea, it is just that are marketed as a miracle-stick that a fool could hit when infact a very sound technique is still required for good results as with a traditional driver.

Novelty headcovers; I really, really hate these things.

Off the top of the range gear I had a big bertha 3 wood I couldn't get on with which was traded in as part of my Cleveland acquisition. I had a set of X20's that I struggled with and were part exchanged on my current R7's

Other stuff I've had include a callaway bag that for some reason never seemed quite balanced and I spent most of the round wondering if my clubs were going to start falling out (despite spending hours adjusting the straps). Also had a pair of Adidas shoes that despite hours onthe range trying to break them in never fitted properly and were chucked after six months

Oh, I've had a few;
Cheap lob wedge (don't remember make)
Dunlop drivers from Sports World.....tried one yesterday....a disgrace....belongs to a kid I know, he now has a proper bit of kit (250cc Great Big Bertha) courtesy of my shed!
Heavily offset irons.....had two sets, both impossible to get one with.
Mizuno "bottom of the range" T-zoid oversize clubs (custom fitted)....yuk, nasty cast things with no sweetspot at all.
Srixon "green" soft feel.....a pathetic ball.....supposedly designed for lower swing speeds.....what - dead people??
Almost every putter ever made by odyssey.....sorry y'all and sorry odyssey, but the standard lie is hopeless.....even Padraig has his 3 degrees more upright.

rgs.....I've gone back to a 5 wood too. However, I found my MD EQL 21* in the boot today and chucked it in my bag....used it 3 times.....no problem. Wierd???

I only used Driver/3H/9I/GW/putter today......could have left the rest in my car.....shot 39 for 9 holes!

Only trouble I have is that the 5 wood goes way, way further.

Callaway BB 2004 5 & 7 wood, when I first took them out I hit the best shot of the day with the 7 and thought I had mastered them, no, it was a one off and are now about to enter the world of EBay.

Callaway balls, I used to play with Warbirds and they where ok for distance but usless around the green, since switching to Srixon and breaking 80 with them I just can not look at Callaway balls.

Maxfli Revolutions, I bout a set a few years ago getting back into golf, I used to use the maxfli revolution golf balls, they were the titleist professionals equals back then and decided to try the irons. They were a lively simple club but I just couldnt make the ball travel with them, easy swing, hard swing, somewhere in between..they just didnt feel very good. I chopped them in for a set of x14 pro's and they were totally different. The Callaways longer irons were perfect, they hit the ball straight, long and reliable but the short irons constantly dug their heels in and most approach shots went left.
I found some common ground with the TM RAC LTs for over a year but then found the love of my life *(other than my actual wife!) the titleist ap2 weapons of mass destruction! haham they are great, I just cant say enough about them, even the 3 iron is a joy to hit now.

The game is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym and on the range, long before I even make the first tee.
